COLUSA SUBREACH PLANNING UPDATE
Colusa Subreach is addressing the concerns of FWA and many others by conducting a hydraulic analysis of the cumulative effects of the habitat restoration projects from Princeton to Colusa. The first part of this study was presented by Ayres Associates in February and modeled the current conditions of the river. The scope of the study will include a comparison of channel thalwegs (determining if the river is “silted in”), woody debris inventory, development and calibration of 2D hydraulic model, evaluation of restoration planting on seepage through the levee, and the hydraulic impacts on the properties adjoining the restoration sites.
Only the first phase of the analysis has been completed. This information will be useful in determining the effects of the habitat restoration on the river channel and levees. The second meeting will be scheduled for April or May. ■
