Prop 84 - North State Says NO!
While 53.8 percent of the voters in California passed Prop 84, the Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006, North State citizens vehemently rejected it. The locals got it! Proposition 84 was not a water bond, but a resource bond. Unfortunately, the general public was sold a bill of goods through misleading advertising that fooled the general public into thinking this was all about water.

The fact is that of the $5.4 billion, $3 billion are allocated toward environmental pursuits. One billion was set aside for integrated regional water management, of that only $73 million will be dedicated to the Sacramento Valley and $800 million for flood control. A mere drop in the bucket, so to speak, compared to what we need. One glaring omission! No new water.
We are pleased that the governor has identified the need for additional storage. We must be diligent to assure that bonds earmarked for new reservoirs not be highjacked by excessive environmental projects, or the poor citizen will continue to shoulder the burden for California's unfulfilled water needs.
